South africans mistake young teacher for student
I think I've come across this story before!
In 2019, a young teacher in South Africa, Thembi Mthembu, was mistaken for a student by her colleagues and students at a school in KwaZulu-Natal. The incident was widely reported in the media and sparked a lot of interest and amusement.
According to reports, Mthembu, who was 24 years old at the time, was starting her first teaching job at the school and was still in her probationary period. She was wearing a uniform that was similar to the one worn by students, which may have contributed to the confusion.
The mistake was reportedly made by the school's principal, who introduced Mthembu to the students as a new student, thinking she was a pupil. The students, of course, were shocked and confused when they realized that their new "classmate" was actually their teacher!
Mthembu, who was understandably embarrassed by the situation, later told the media that she had been trying to fit in and didn't want to draw attention to herself, which may have contributed to the mistake. She also joked that she was relieved that the students didn't ask her to do any homework!
The incident has since become a popular anecdote in South Africa, with many people sharing the story and laughing about the absurdity of it all.
