Nigeria's Head of Service, Oyo Ita Warns: Social Media Internet Disrupt Family Life
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, has warned that the excessive use of social media and the internet is disrupting family life in Nigeria.
Speaking at the 2019 National Council on Women's Affairs (NCWA) conference in Abuja, Mrs. Oyo-Ita noted that the widespread use of social media and the internet has led to a decline in family values and relationships.
She said: "The excessive use of social media and the internet has disrupted family life, leading to a decline in family values and relationships. It has also led to a breakdown in communication and interaction among family members."
Mrs. Oyo-Ita urged parents and guardians to take responsibility for monitoring their children's use of social media and the internet, and to ensure that they use these platforms responsibly.
She also called on the government to take steps to regulate the use of social media and the internet, and to ensure that they are used in a way that promotes family values and relationships.
The Head of Service also emphasized the importance of education and skills acquisition in empowering women and girls, and in promoting economic development in Nigeria.
She said: "Education and skills acquisition are key to empowering women and girls, and to promoting economic development in Nigeria. We must continue to invest in education and skills acquisition, and to provide opportunities for women and girls to develop their talents and abilities."
The conference, which was attended by women from across Nigeria, also discussed issues such as women's empowerment, economic development, and family values.
