Sermon on new year commitments
Here's a sermon on New Year's commitments:
Title: "Renewing Our Commitments: A New Year's Reflection"
Text: Galatians 6:9-10, Psalm 119:33-40
Introduction:
As we stand at the threshold of a new year, many of us are reflecting on the past year and thinking about the future. We're thinking about our goals, our resolutions, and our commitments. We're thinking about how we can improve ourselves, our relationships, and our communities. But as we make these commitments, let's not forget the most important thing: our commitment to God.
The Power of Commitment:
In Galatians 6:9-10, Paul writes, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." Paul is reminding us that our commitment to God is not a one-time decision, but a daily choice. It's a choice to keep moving forward, even when the road gets tough.
In Psalm 119:33-40, we read, "Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes, that I may keep it to the end. Give me understanding and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find my delight. Make your way known to me, O Lord; teach me in your path. Lead me in the way of your righteousness because of those who lie in wait for me. Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, and keep my feet from the snares of men. Make your way known to me, O Lord; teach me in your path. Incline my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish ambition."
The Importance of Renewing Our Commitments:
As we enter this new year, let's take a moment to reflect on our commitments to God. Are we still committed to following Him? Are we still committed to living according to His Word? Are we still committed to serving others and spreading the Good News?
Renewing our commitments to God is not just about making a list of resolutions or goals. It's about making a conscious decision to prioritize our relationship with Him. It's about making a commitment to seek Him, to follow Him, and to obey Him.
The Benefits of Renewing Our Commitments:
When we renew our commitments to God, we experience many benefits. We experience peace, joy, and contentment. We experience guidance and direction. We experience strength and courage. We experience a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
But most importantly, when we renew our commitments to God, we experience a deeper relationship with Him. We experience His presence and His power in our lives. We experience His love and His forgiveness. We experience His guidance and His direction.
Conclusion:
As we enter this new year, let's make a commitment to renew our commitment to God. Let's make a commitment to seek Him, to follow Him, and to obey Him. Let's make a commitment to prioritize our relationship with Him above all else.
May we be like the psalmist, who wrote, "Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes, that I may keep it to the end." May we be like Paul, who wrote, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
May we experience the power and the benefits of renewing our commitments to God. May we experience a deeper relationship with Him, and may we be blessed in all that we do.
Prayer:
Dear God, we come to you today with a sense of gratitude and a sense of commitment. We thank you for the blessings of the past year, and we ask that you guide us in the coming year. Help us to renew our commitment to you, to seek you, to follow you, and to obey you. Give us the strength and the courage to prioritize our relationship with you above all else. May we experience your presence and your power in our lives, and may we be blessed in all that we do. Amen.
