Serie a atalanta fined 11000 for racist abuse

A sad and disturbing incident in Italian football.

According to reports, Atalanta has been fined €11,000 (approximately $12,300 USD) by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) for racist abuse directed at Napoli's Senegalese player, Kalidou Koulibaly, during a Serie A match on January 6, 2022.

The incident occurred in the 14th minute of the match, when Koulibaly was subjected to racist chants and monkey noises from a section of Atalanta fans. The referee stopped the game temporarily to allow the players to leave the field and the stadium to be evacuated.

The FIGC has taken disciplinary action against Atalanta, fining the club €11,000 and deducting one point from their Serie A tally. The club has also been ordered to play two matches behind closed doors.

This is not the first time that Atalanta has been involved in a racist incident, and it's a shame that such behavior continues to plague the sport. It's essential that football authorities take strong action to combat racism and promote inclusivity and respect for all players, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or nationality.
