Senate President Bukola Saraki has implored the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo to immediately institute an independent judicial panel of inquiry to look into the siege on the National Assembly by men of the Department of Security Service (DSS) last week.
Saraki made this call in a tweet from his official Twitter account, @bukolasaraki.
It would be recalled that masked security operatives identified as operatives from the DSS laid a siege on the national assembly complex, barring staff and lawmakers from going into the legislative chambers.
Ag President Osinbajo eventually summarily dismissed the then-DG of the DSS, Lawal Daura as the siege was announced to be unauthorised by the Presidency or the Police.
In his tweet, Saraki referred to the incident as “an assault to our democracy.”
The very serious questions about last Tuesday’s siege on the National Assembly can only be answered through a thorough and neutral investigation. I call on Mr. President to immediately institute an independent judicial panel of inquiry to look into that assault on our democracy.
