Russian lawyer describes being summoned to trump tower
You're referring to the infamous meeting between Natalia Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer, and Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort at Trump Tower in June 2016.
In an interview with the Senate Intelligence Committee in 2017, Veselnitskaya described the meeting as follows:
"I was invited to the meeting by Rob Goldstone, who is a British citizen and a friend of Donald Trump Jr. He told me that he had a very important person who wanted to meet with me, and that this person was a very high-ranking official in the Trump campaign. He didn't specify who it was, but he said that this person was very interested in meeting with me because I was a lawyer who had worked on a case involving the Magnitsky Act, which is a law that imposes sanctions on Russian officials who are responsible for human rights abuses.
"When I arrived at Trump Tower, I was greeted by Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner. They introduced themselves and told me that they were there to discuss the Magnitsky Act. I was surprised by this, because I had never met them before and I didn't know what they wanted to talk about. But I was also curious, so I agreed to meet with them.
"During the meeting, we talked about the Magnitsky Act and how it was affecting Russian-American relations. I also told them about my work on the case involving the Magnitsky Act, and how it had been a very difficult and challenging experience for me. I think that's why they were interested in meeting with me, because they wanted to understand more about the law and how it was being implemented.
"I have to say that the meeting was very strange. It was like nothing I had ever experienced before. The atmosphere was very tense and formal, and everyone was very serious. I think that's because they were all very nervous and unsure of what was going to happen.
"After the meeting, I left Trump Tower and went back to my hotel. I was very confused and unsure of what had just happened. I didn't know what to make of the meeting, and I didn't know what to expect next. But I did know that I had to be careful, because I had just met with people who were very powerful and influential.
"Over the next few days, I started to receive a lot of attention and scrutiny. The media was all over the story, and people were asking me questions and trying to get me to talk about the meeting. I was very uncomfortable with all of this attention, and I didn't know how to handle it. But I did know that I had to be careful and make sure that I didn't say anything that would get me in trouble.
"In the end, I decided to cooperate with the investigation and tell the truth about what had happened. I knew that it was the right thing to do, and I was willing to take the risk. I hope that by doing so, I can help to clear up any misunderstandings and misconceptions about the meeting. And I hope that my story can serve as a reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in our political system."
