REPS PASS BILL TO ESTABLISH SOUTH WEST DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

Abuja, Nigeria - The House of Representatives has passed a bill to establish the South West Development Commission, a move aimed at promoting economic development and integration in the region.

The bill, which was sponsored by Hon. Babajimi Benson, a member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency of Lagos State, was passed after a thorough debate and consideration by the House.

According to the bill, the South West Development Commission will be responsible for promoting economic development, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the overall well-being of the people of the South West region.

The Commission will also be responsible for coordinating the development efforts of the six states in the region, which include Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ondo.

In his lead debate, Hon. Benson explained that the establishment of the Commission was necessary to address the developmental challenges facing the region, which has been plagued by poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure decay.

He said, "The South West region is rich in natural resources and has a large population, but unfortunately, it is also one of the most underdeveloped regions in the country. The establishment of this Commission will help to address this anomaly and promote sustainable development in the region."

The bill was supported by majority of the members of the House, who argued that the Commission will help to promote regional integration and cooperation, and also provide a platform for the people of the region to participate in the development process.

The bill will now be sent to the Senate for further consideration and passage before it is transmitted to the President for assent.
