Psalm 51 good news bible version
Here is Psalm 51 in the Good News Bible (GNB) version:
Psalm 51: A Prayer of David
Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great kindness, wipe away my sins.
Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.
For I know my rebellion well, and my sin is always before me.
Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. So you are right in bringing judgment, and in being angry with me.
Yet, see how you have dealt with me, O Lord, for you have followed me and tested me.
You have put my heart in the palm of your hand. You have made me see the depths of the earth.
Let me hear your words, O Lord; let me hear them again. Teach me what they mean.
Do not hide your commands from me. I have asked you to correct me, and I will put my heart in line with your laws.
I will be clean when you have washed me of my guilt. I will be whiter than snow.
Make me hear your joy and your salvation, and give me a willing spirit to obey you.
Do not take away your Holy Spirit from me. Do not let me be overcome by my own wickedness.
Give me back the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.
Then I will teach your ways to those who are rebellious, and sinners will turn back to you.
Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, the God of my salvation. Then my tongue will praise you.
You will not welcome sacrifice, God, or I would give it to you. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and humble heart.
You will not despise a humble and repentant heart, O God.
Make me hear your joy and your salvation, and give me a willing spirit to obey you.
Then I will teach your ways to those who are rebellious, and sinners will turn back to you.
Lord, lay your hand of blessing on me. Then I will be right again, even as from the beginning, when you created the world.
May your good plans for me be carried out, O Lord. May your mercy and love be with me, always.
This psalm is a powerful expression of repentance and a plea for forgiveness, written by King David after his sin with Bathsheba. It is a beautiful example of the importance of seeking God's mercy and forgiveness, and of the joy that comes from being restored to a right relationship with Him.
