Psalm 40 good news bible
Here is Psalm 40 in the Good News Bible (GNB):
Psalm 40
- I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.
- He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
- He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord, and put their trust in him.
- Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to proud people, who does not boast about their own achievements.
- But they who wait for the Lord will inherit the land, and they will possess the land forever.
- They will be blessed by the Lord, and they will inherit the land forever.
- The Lord will bless them, and they will inherit the land forever.
- I said, "I am greatly afflicted; I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I have been crying out in anguish; every morning he hears my voice.
- But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in love.
- You, Lord, will not reject your people, the faithful remnant of Jacob.
- For you have shown your people the light of your presence, and you have given them great joy.
- You have given them the joy of your presence, and you have given them the joy of your presence.
- For you have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.
- That my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever.
- I will bring forth praise to your name, for you have lifted me out of the depths.
- You have kept me from falling; you have set my feet in a spacious place.
- You have saved me from the attacks of the people; you have kept me safe as a bird from the hunter's snare.
- You have covered me with feathers, and under your wings I will hide; your faithfulness will be my shield and protection.
- I will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
- nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noon.
- Though a thousand may fall at my side, near by, but it will not come near me.
- For you are my refuge and my shield; you are my glory and the One who lifts my head high.
- I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will be continually in my mouth.
- My mouth will speak of your righteousness, of your saving help all day long; though I know not how to speak of your justice, or of your praise all day long.
This psalm is a beautiful expression of trust and praise to God, who has delivered the psalmist from affliction and despair. It is a powerful reminder of God's goodness, compassion, and faithfulness.
