Psalm 38 good news bible

Here is Psalm 38 in the Good News Bible (GNB):

Psalm 38

My troubles never seem to end

  1. O Lord, don't punish me in your anger; don't discipline me in your wrath.
  2. Your arrows have pierced me, and your hand is heavy on me.
  3. There is no soundness in my flesh because of your anger; there is no health in my bones because of my sin.
  4. My guilt has become more and more evident, and my sin is always before me.
  5. I am worn out from my groaning; all night long I flood my bed with tears; my eyes are wasted away because of my grief; the darkness is deep around me.
  6. I am restless and cannot be still; I have lost all sleep because of my pain, with grief in my heart.
  7. My heart is wasting away, like a burning fire within me.
  8. When I try to speak, my words are like a scorching fire; and when I hope, I am afraid.
  9. I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.
  10. I am worn out from my guilt; I am crushed by my sin.
  11. All my enemies are watching me; they are waiting for me to stumble.
  12. You have become my accuser; my enemies are all around me.
  13. I see my trouble and my sin, and I am consumed by my own guilt.
  14. I am the one who has sinned against you; I have done what is evil in your sight.
  15. You are the one who knows my foolishness, and my guilty conscience is before you.
  16. My enemies are all around me; like a lion, they are at my feet.
  17. You have turned my friends away from me; my eyes are dim with grief.
  18. You have broken my strength; you have shortened my days.
  19. You have seen my troubles; you know my sin.
  20. My enemies are all around me; like a lion, they are at my feet.
  21. You will bring me back from the depths of the earth, and you will lift me up from the depths of the sea.
  22. You will restore my strength; you will guide me along the right path.
  23. You will bring me back to your presence, and you will comfort me.
  24. I will praise you, Lord, my God, with all my heart; I will honor your name forever.

This psalm is a cry for help and a confession of sin. The psalmist is overwhelmed by their troubles and feels like they are being punished by God. They acknowledge their guilt and sin, and ask God to deliver them from their enemies and restore their strength. Despite their struggles, the psalmist expresses their trust in God and their desire to praise and honor Him.
