Psalm 37 good news bible

Here is Psalm 37 in the Good News Bible (GNB):

Psalm 37: Trust in the Lord

  1. Don't worry about the wicked or be jealous of those who do wrong.
  2. For like grass, they will soon wither away. Like green plants, they will soon die.
  3. Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and feed on its riches.
  4. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desires.
  5. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will do what is right for you.
  6. He will make your innocence shine like the light, and the justice of your cause will be like the noonday sun.
  7. Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don't worry about the one who prospered by doing wrong.
  8. Don't worry about the one who does wrong, or about the one who makes trouble.
  9. For they will soon wither away like grass, and like green plants they will soon die.
  10. But as for those who trust in the Lord, they will be like the trees planted by the riverside—trees that send down their roots to the water and can never be shaken.
  11. They will give their fruit in season, and their leaves will never wither. Whatever they do will prosper.
  12. The wicked may have many children, but the righteous will inherit the land.
  13. The Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day will come.
  14. The wicked draw their swords and bend their bows to bring down the poor and the needy, to slaughter those who walk in the right way.
  15. But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
  16. Better is a little that is honest and right, than great wealth and riches that are gained by cheating.
  17. The honest will be blessed, but the wicked will be destroyed.
  18. They who are honest will be blessed, but those who are crooked will be destroyed.
  19. They who are honest will be blessed, but those who are wicked will be destroyed.
  20. The Lord will not abandon his people, nor will he leave them to be destroyed.
  21. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be strong and brave, and wait patiently for him.

This psalm encourages us to trust in the Lord and not worry about the wicked or those who do wrong. It promises that those who trust in the Lord will be blessed and will prosper, while the wicked will wither away like grass. It also reminds us that honesty is better than wealth and riches gained by cheating, and that the Lord will not abandon his people.
