Psalm 139 good news bible

Here is Psalm 139 in the Good News Bible (GNB):

Psalm 139

  1. You have examined me, Lord, and know all about me.
  2. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I'm far away.
  3. You know what I will say even before I say it, Lord.
  4. You are all around me—in front of me and behind me, and you have placed your hand upon me.
  5. Your knowledge is wonderful and too great for me to understand. It is higher than the heavens—above all the earth.
  6. Your thoughts are more than the grains of sand on the seashore. When I wake up, you are there. When I go to bed, you are there.
  7. You know everything I do. Even the words I speak before I say them, you know them all.
  8. You are all around me, and you know what I will do before I do it. You know where I go and when I rest. You know everything I do.
  9. Even the darkness is not dark to you. Darkness and light are the same to you.
  10. You made me, and I am yours. You have written my name on the palms of your hands.
  11. Where can I go to escape your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
  12. If I go up to heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in the depths of the sea, you are there too.
  13. If I rise to the heavens, you are there. If I lie down in the grave, you are there too.
  14. You know all about my thoughts and intentions. You know when I sit down or stand up.
  15. You know my thoughts even when I'm far away. You know what I will say even before I say it, Lord.
  16. You have watched me when I was growing inside my mother. You knew all about me before I was born.
  17. You knew how many days I would live, and you wrote down the number of my days in your book. Every day was already planned before a single one of them began.

This psalm is a beautiful expression of God's omniscience, omnipresence, and sovereignty. It reminds us that God is always with us, always knows our thoughts and intentions, and is always working out His plan for our lives.
