Psalm 124 good news bible

Psalm 124

1. If the Lord had not been on our side, let Israel's enemies have swallowed us whole.

2. Then the floodwaters would have engulfed us, the raging waters would have swept over us.

3. Then the raging waters would have swept over us, and we would have been swept away.

4. But we have escaped like a bird from a hunter's snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.

5. Our help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

6. The Lord is on our side; he is the rock of our salvation.

7. This God is our God forever and ever; he will be our guide until we die.

In this psalm, the writer is expressing gratitude to God for delivering them from their enemies. They acknowledge that if God had not been on their side, they would have been destroyed. But instead, they have escaped like a bird from a hunter's snare, and they attribute their salvation to God's help.
