Presidency Says Buhari Tried to Save Sanusi, Dismisses Allegations of Collusion

The Presidency has dismissed allegations of collusion between President Muhammadu Buhari and the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Lamido Sanusi, over the latter's removal from office.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said that President Buhari had actually tried to save Sanusi from being removed as CBN governor.

Shehu said that the President had been briefed on the allegations of financial recklessness and mismanagement of the CBN's funds by Sanusi, and had decided to take action to address the issues.

"The President, in his wisdom, decided to take a step to address the issues, not to collude with anyone," Shehu said. "The President's action was not taken in collusion with anyone, but to ensure that the CBN is run in a transparent and accountable manner."

The statement also denied allegations that the President had been influenced by external forces to remove Sanusi, saying that the decision was taken solely by the President.

"The President's decision to suspend Sanusi was taken after due consideration of the reports and recommendations of the relevant authorities, and not as a result of any external influence," Shehu said.

The statement also praised Sanusi for his efforts to reform the CBN, saying that his suspension was not a reflection on his achievements in that regard.

"Sanusi's suspension is not a reflection on his achievements in reforming the CBN, but rather a recognition of the need to address the issues that have arisen during his tenure," Shehu said.

The statement concluded by urging Nigerians to remain calm and to allow the President to carry out his duties without interference.

"We urge Nigerians to remain calm and to allow the President to carry out his duties without interference," Shehu said. "The President is committed to ensuring that the CBN is run in a transparent and accountable manner, and we are confident that he will achieve this goal."
