Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper, Armed Robber in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and armed robber, who has been terrorizing residents of the state.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect, whose name was given as Abubakar Suleiman, was arrested on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at about 10:00 pm, at his hideout in the Kpakungu area of the state.

Suleiman, who is said to be a notorious criminal, has been linked to several cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in the state. He is alleged to have been involved in the abduction of several people, including a businessman, who was kidnapped and later released after a ransom was paid.

The police said that Suleiman was arrested following a tip-off from a member of the public, who reported a suspicious person in the area. The police quickly responded to the information and apprehended the suspect, who was found with a locally-made pistol and a cutlass.

The police also recovered a Toyota Hilux van, which was allegedly used by the suspect to commit the crimes.

The Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Monday Kuryas, has commended the public for their cooperation and urged them to continue providing information to the police to help in the fight against crime.

Suleiman is currently being detained at the police headquarters in Minna, the state capital, and will be charged to court soon.

The police have also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
