Lagos Police Arrest Leader of Gang Behind Kidnapping of Four-Year-Old Child
In a major breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested the leader of a notorious gang responsible for the kidnapping of a four-year-old child in the state.
According to reports, the child was kidnapped on Saturday, March 12, 2023, from a residential area in the Ikeja axis of Lagos. The police received a distress call and launched a thorough investigation, which led to the arrest of the gang leader, identified as 35-year-old Chukwuemeka Okoro.
Okoro, a native of Imo State, was arrested at his hideout in the Ajah area of Lagos, where he was found with the kidnapped child. The child was rescued and reunited with their family, who were overjoyed to see their loved one safe and sound.
The police also recovered a ransom demand note from the kidnappers, which was allegedly sent to the family. The note demanded a ransom of N5 million in exchange for the child's safe release.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, commended the police team for their swift and diligent efforts in rescuing the child and apprehending the kidnappers.
"We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Lagos State, particularly children. We will continue to work tirelessly to track down and bring to justice those who engage in heinous crimes like kidnapping," CP Alabi said.
The arrested gang leader, Chukwuemeka Okoro, has been charged to court and is currently facing trial for kidnapping and other related offenses.
The Lagos State Government has also commended the police for their efforts in rescuing the child and has pledged to continue to support the police in their efforts to combat crime in the state.
