Poland announces first coronavirus case
A significant event in the history of the COVID-19 pandemic!
On January 28, 2020, Poland announced its first case of coronavirus, a 54-year-old woman who had recently traveled to Italy. This marked the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Central Europe.
The woman, who was not named, had returned to Poland from Milan, Italy, on January 24 and began showing symptoms of the virus on January 26. She was hospitalized in the city of Łódź and was in stable condition.
The announcement was made by Poland's Ministry of Health, which immediately launched an investigation to identify anyone who may have come into contact with the infected woman. The country's health authorities also began to screen passengers who had traveled with the woman on the same flight from Italy.
Poland's announcement came just days after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a global health emergency. The country's government quickly implemented measures to prevent the spread of the virus, including increasing surveillance at airports and border crossings, and advising people to avoid non-essential travel to affected areas.
The first case in Poland marked the beginning of a significant outbreak in the country, which would eventually lead to over 1.5 million confirmed cases and over 30,000 deaths.
