Pdp asks court disqualify obaseki university degree
It appears that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approached a court to seek the disqualification of Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, from contesting the upcoming governorship election in the state due to alleged discrepancies in his university degree.
According to reports, the PDP is claiming that Obaseki's degree certificate from the University of Ibadan, which he presented as a requirement for the election, is fake and therefore, he is not qualified to contest the election.
The party is seeking an order from the court to disqualify Obaseki from the election, citing Section 182(1)(j) of the 1999 Constitution, which states that a person shall not be qualified to contest an election if he has presented false information in his nomination paper.
This development is likely to add another layer of controversy to the already heated governorship election in Edo State, which is scheduled to hold on September 19, 2020.
