By November 27th this year, the tenure of the governor of the state of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola will join the league of former governors in the country as he has just a little above two hundred days as the state helmsman.
In line with the released INEC timetable scheduling the governorship election for September 22nd, 2018, the ruling party in the state, All Progressives Congress APC has commenced a state-wide political mobilization, sensitization and consultation for all her members in the thirty LGAs.
The tour will take the governor round the nine federal constituencies, and it started with the Ife zone on Monday 23rd April 2018 with a visitation to the palace of The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and then to the 3,000 sitting capacity hall where he gave a stewardship of his 90 months administration.
The objectives of the parley are to intimate members of the achievements of the government, promote unity and peace and preach brotherliness amongst members, institute a smooth working operation for continuity in the state in order to sustain the tempo of good governance and infrastructural revolution.
On Tuesday, April 24th, the Governor’s train moved to the Ijesa South zone, it was indeed a homecoming for the Ijesa born politician as the mammoth crowd that welcomed him into the ancient town was unprecedented, reports had it that the venue of the meeting was already overstretched beyond its carrying capacity before midday which led to human and vehicular traffic around the palace of the Owa Obokun.
On arrival, the governor and his team paid homage to the foremost traditional ruler of the Ijesa kingdom, Oba Dr. Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland who lauded the significant contributions Aregbesola has introduced to the state of Osun and described him as a worthy ambassador of the Ijesaland.
The entourage of the governor had political office holders, former chairmen, immediate past cabinet members and aspirants jostling to succeed him in office, amongst who is the speaker of the house of assembly, Rt. Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam (Iwaloye), the secretary to the state government, Alh. Olalekan Moshood Adeoti (Sheu) and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alh Gboyega Oyetola (Ilerioluwa), the atmosphere was overcharged with supporters pouring accolades and encomium on their preferred candidate, the sequential chorus of Ilerioluwa was deafening as his supporters were uncontrollable upon sighting Gboyega Oyetola alighting from the bus carrying VIPs.
Intermittently, the musician dropped the danceable Ileriooluwa rhymes to the admiration of all. Various speakers at the event eulogized the governor for every development Osun has witnessed in the last eight years.
Elder Kunle Odeyemi who spoke on behalf of the Elders’ Council emphatically told the governor that their caucus has taken a position to cue behind any candidate Aregbesola deems fit for the number one job of the state.
Speaking on behalf of the four APC chairmen in Ijesa South federal constituency, the honourable commissioner for environment, Idowu Korede emphasized the need for cohesion as he reiterated that there is no division whatsoever in their camp, and in unison they are ever ready to throw their weight behind the candidate of the APC to ensure victory at the polls.
The spokesman for the Community Development Council CDC, Hon. Gboyega Ajileti recounted the many successes of the governor in the area of rural development as regards road construction, electrification, agriculture and provision of basic social amenities in the rural localities which he described as unprecedented in the annals of the state, as such the CDC have agreed to work together with the APC to produce a worthy successor to continue with the developmental strides of the Aregbesola administration.
Hon. Femi Kujembola who delivered the goodwill message on behalf of all the elected Chairman and parliamentarians of the 4 LGAs and newly created LCDAs, he appreciated and commended the governor for the thoughtful insight that led to the establishment of more LCDAs which has brought government and dividends of democracy closer to the people at the grassroots, he therefore pledged their unalloyed loyalty to the party as they are eager to promote the interest of the governor and his candidate.
The senatorial youth leader of the party for Osun East senatorial district, Hon. Olanirati Ogunsina highlighted the various youth and progressive interventions of the government in agriculture, youth empowerment, teaching service, infrastructural rejuvenation in education and road construction. He ended his speech with a diplomatic endorsement for one of the aspirants when he said in Yoruba and interpreted thus, “what we are confident of as youths of the party is that the promise of God (Ilerioluwa) will manifest in the state this 2018”.
The governor briefly in his remarks charged all APC members to return to their different communities and wards to propagate the giant strides of his administration and canvass support for the party, APC in the September 22nd gubernatorial election as uninterrupted development can only be possible under the APC.
