Okorocha hands over imo marine university to navy
A significant development in the education sector in Imo State, Nigeria!
According to reports, former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has handed over the Imo State University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (IMSU) Marine University to the Nigerian Navy.
The Marine University, which was established in 2018, is located in Ogboko, Imo State. The university was initially conceived as a marine-focused institution, with a mandate to provide education and training in marine sciences, engineering, and other related fields.
The handover ceremony, which took place on February 27, 2023, was attended by top officials of the Nigerian Navy, including the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, and other dignitaries.
The decision to hand over the university to the Nigerian Navy is seen as a strategic move to enhance the institution's capacity to deliver high-quality marine education and training, as well as to strengthen the country's maritime sector.
Under the new arrangement, the Nigerian Navy will provide administrative and logistical support to the university, while the institution will continue to operate as a separate entity with its own academic programs and curriculum.
This development is expected to have a positive impact on the education sector in Imo State and the country at large, as it will provide more opportunities for students to pursue careers in marine sciences and related fields.
