OGUN POLICE ARRAIGN 3 CULT SUSPECTS

Abeokuta, Ogun State - The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned three suspected cult members before a Magistrates' Court in Abeokuta, the state capital, for allegedly engaging in cult activities and other related offenses.

The suspects, identified as Olamide Ogunleye, 25; Adekunle Adebayo, 28; and Olamide Adeyemi, 22, were arrested by the police on Tuesday, following a tip-off from a reliable source.

According to the police, the suspects were found with charms and other cult-related items, including a locally-made pistol, when they were arrested at a hotel in Abeokuta.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Abiodun Salami, told the court that the suspects were arrested while they were allegedly planning to carry out a cult-related activity in the state.

Salami alleged that the suspects had been involved in several cult-related activities in the state, including the murder of a 25-year-old man, who was killed during a cult clash in Abeokuta last month.

The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the suspects in prison custody pending the outcome of investigations.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Adeyemi, granted the police request and ordered that the suspects be remanded in prison custody for 30 days.

The case was adjourned till March 15, 2023, for further hearing.

The police have vowed to continue to clamp down on cultism and other forms of criminality in the state, and have called on members of the public to provide information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of cultists.
