NYSF Warns Politicians' Supporters Against Attacking Corps Members During Osun Election
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned politicians and their supporters against attacking corps members during the Osun State governorship election scheduled for July 16, 2022.
In a statement issued by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Mohammed Fadah, the corps urged politicians to maintain peace and order during the election, and to respect the rights and dignity of corps members who will be participating as ad-hoc staff.
The statement reads:
"The NYSC wishes to remind politicians and their supporters that corps members are not political actors and should not be targeted or attacked during the election. Corps members are citizens of Nigeria who have been mobilized to participate in the democratic process as ad-hoc staff, and they deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.
"We urge politicians and their supporters to maintain peace and order during the election, and to refrain from any act that may compromise the safety and security of corps members. Any attempt to attack or intimidate corps members will be viewed seriously and will be met with appropriate sanctions.
"The NYSC is committed to ensuring that corps members are able to perform their duties without fear or favor, and we will work closely with the security agencies to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law.
"We also urge corps members to remain neutral and impartial during the election, and to avoid any act that may compromise their integrity or dignity. We are confident that with the cooperation of all stakeholders, the Osun State governorship election will be a peaceful and successful one."
The NYSC has also deployed a team of officials to Osun State to monitor the election and ensure the safety and security of corps members.
