NYSC Warns Corps Members Against Electoral Misconduct in 2019 Polls
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned its corps members against engaging in any form of electoral misconduct during the 2019 general elections in Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the corps members were reminded of their role as neutral observers and their responsibility to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
The statement read in part: "As we approach the 2019 general elections, it is imperative to reiterate the importance of neutrality and impartiality in the discharge of your duties as corps members. You are expected to maintain the highest level of professionalism and integrity in your conduct, and avoid any action that could compromise the credibility of the electoral process."
The NYSC DG also warned corps members against participating in any form of political campaign or activity that could be perceived as partisan, and urged them to respect the rights of all political parties and their supporters.
The statement further emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order during the elections, and urged corps members to report any incident of electoral misconduct or violence to the appropriate authorities.
The NYSC has been involved in the electoral process in Nigeria since 1973, and has deployed thousands of corps members as ad-hoc staff to assist with the conduct of elections across the country.
The 2019 general elections are scheduled to hold on February 16 and March 2, 2019, and are expected to be one of the most significant elections in Nigeria's history.
