On November 23, 2022, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) introduced new series of naira banknotes in denominations of N200, N500, and N1,000. The new notes feature enhanced security features and a new design.

- N500 note: The N500 note features a portrait of Dr. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a Nigerian statesman and leader of the Biafran secessionist movement, on the obverse side. The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian agricultural and industrial development.
- N1,000 note: The N1,000 note features a portrait of Dr. Muhammadu Buhari, the current President of Nigeria, on the obverse side. The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian natural resources, including oil, gas, and agricultural products.
The new notes also feature enhanced security features, including:
- Watermark: A transparent image of the Central Bank of Nigeria's logo and the denomination of the note.
- Security thread: A thin strip of paper that glows pink when held under UV light.
- Hologram: A 3D image that appears to move when the note is tilted.
- Microprinting: Tiny text that is difficult to read with the naked eye.
- Raised printing: Raised patterns and textures that can be felt when running the note over the fingers.
The introduction of the new notes is aimed at reducing counterfeiting and improving the overall security of the Nigerian currency.
