Nigeria new currency 2020

As of 2020, the official currency of Nigeria is still the Nigerian Naira (NGN). There have been no changes to the currency denomination or design in 2020.

However, there have been some changes to the currency's design and security features in recent years. In 2019, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) introduced a new series of banknotes and coins to improve the security and durability of the currency.

The new banknotes feature enhanced security features, including:

  1. Watermark: A transparent image of the national symbol, the eagle, is embedded in the paper.
  2. Security thread: A thin strip of paper with a unique pattern is woven into the banknote.
  3. Hologram: A hologram image of the national symbol is embedded in the banknote.
  4. Microprinting: Tiny text is printed on the banknote to prevent counterfeiting.

The new coins also feature improved security features, including:

  1. Bi-metallic coins: Coins made from two different metals, such as nickel and copper, to prevent counterfeiting.
  2. Security thread: A thin strip of paper with a unique pattern is woven into the coin.
  3. Microprinting: Tiny text is printed on the coin to prevent counterfeiting.

It's worth noting that while there have been no changes to the currency denomination or design in 2020, the CBN has been working to improve the country's cashless policy and promote the use of digital payments.
