New york sizzler restaurant
The nostalgia!
Sizzler is a casual dining restaurant chain that was founded in 1958 in Culver City, California. The first Sizzler restaurant in New York was opened in 1974 in Manhattan. At its peak in the 1980s and 1990s, Sizzler had over 1,000 locations worldwide, including several in New York State.
In New York, Sizzler restaurants were known for their buffet-style service, where customers could enjoy a wide variety of American comfort food, including salads, soups, entrees, and desserts. The signature item on the menu was, of course, the sizzling skillets, which featured a selection of meats, seafood, and vegetables cooked to order on a sizzling hot plate.
Some popular items on the Sizzler menu in New York included:
- The Sizzler Skillet: A sizzling hot plate filled with a choice of meats, seafood, and vegetables.
- The Endless Salad Bar: A buffet-style salad bar with a wide variety of greens, vegetables, fruits, and toppings.
- The Soup and Salad Bar: A selection of soups and salads, including creamy tomato soup and a fresh fruit salad.
- The Prime Rib: A slow-roasted prime rib served with au jus and horseradish sauce.
- The Seafood Platter: A selection of seafood, including shrimp, scallops, and fish, served with a side of cocktail sauce.
Unfortunately, Sizzler's popularity declined in the 2000s, and many locations were closed or converted to other restaurant concepts. Today, there are only a few Sizzler locations remaining in New York State, mostly in the Buffalo and Rochester areas.
However, for those who grew up with Sizzler, the memories of sizzling skillets and endless salad bars remain fond and nostalgic.
