New wonders of the world
In 2007, a new list of the Seven Wonders of the World was compiled through a worldwide poll. Here are the New Seven Wonders of the World:
- The Great Wall of China: A series of fortifications built across the northern borders of China to protect the country from invasions.
- The Taj Mahal: A white marble mausoleum in Agra, India, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a tribute to his wife.
- Machu Picchu: An Inca citadel in the Cusco Region of Peru, built in the 15th century and abandoned before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors.
- Chichén Itzá: A pre-Columbian Mayan city on the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, built by the Mayans in the 6th century.
- The Roman Colosseum: An amphitheater in the center of Rome, Italy, built in the 1st century AD and one of the greatest architectural and engineering achievements of the ancient world.
- The Christ the Redeemer statue: A massive Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, designed by Paul Landowski and built by Heitor da Silva Costa.
- The Pyramids of Giza: The oldest and only remaining ancient wonder, the Pyramids of Giza are located on the outskirts of modern-day Cairo, Egypt, and were built as tombs for the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt.
In addition to these seven wonders, there are many other remarkable structures and natural formations around the world that are considered to be among the most impressive and awe-inspiring. Some examples include:
- The Grand Canyon (USA)
- The Great Barrier Reef (Australia)
- The Amazon Rainforest (South America)
- The Great Rift Valley (Africa)
- The Mount Everest (Asia)
- The Victoria Falls (Africa)
- The Angkor Wat (Cambodia)
- The Acropolis of Athens (Greece)
- The Eiffel Tower (France)
- The Burj Khalifa (UAE)
These are just a few examples, and there are many more wonders of the world that could be listed.
