New us dollar notes
The United States has introduced new designs for its paper currency, including the $20, $50, and $100 bills. Here are some key features of the new designs:
$20 Bill
- Portrait of Harriet Tubman, a former slave and abolitionist, replaces Andrew Jackson on the obverse (front side).
- The reverse (back side) features an image of the White House, with a subtle pattern of 15 stars to represent the 15th Amendment, which granted voting rights to African American men.
- The bill's color scheme is a new blue-green color, replacing the current green color.
$50 Bill
- Portrait of Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States, replaces the current portrait of Ulysses S. Grant on the obverse.
- The reverse features an image of the Lincoln Memorial, with a subtle pattern of 13 stars to represent the original 13 colonies.
- The bill's color scheme is a new blue color, replacing the current red and blue color scheme.
$100 Bill
- Portrait of Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, remains on the obverse.
- The reverse features an image of Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were signed.
- The bill's color scheme remains the same, with a blue and gray color scheme.
Security Features
All of the new bills feature advanced security features to prevent counterfeiting, including:
- Raised printing: Intaglio printing creates raised images that can be felt by touch.
- Color-shifting ink: The numeral "20" in the lower right corner of the $20 bill, for example, changes from copper to green when tilted.
- Microprinting: Tiny text is printed in various locations on the bills, including the borders and the reverse.
- Watermarks: Thin, translucent images are embedded in the paper to prevent counterfeiting.
- Security threads: Thin strips of paper embedded in the bills glow pink when held under ultraviolet light.
The new designs were introduced in a phased rollout, with the $20 bill being the first to be released in 2016. The $50 and $100 bills were released in 2021.
