New uk currency
You're referring to the upcoming change in the UK's currency!
As of September 2022, the United Kingdom will be introducing a new banknote series featuring polymer notes, which are more durable and secure than the current paper notes. The new notes will feature:
- £5 note: Featuring Sir Winston Churchill, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
- £10 note: Featuring Jane Austen, the renowned English novelist.
- £20 note: Featuring J.M.W. Turner, the famous British artist.
- £50 note: Featuring Alan Turing, the British mathematician, computer scientist, and logician.
The new polymer notes will have several security features, including:
- Raised print: Tactile features that can be felt by touch.
- See-through windows: Windows that allow you to see the paper-like material underneath.
- Micro-lettering: Tiny text that can only be seen under ultraviolet light.
- Watermark: A transparent image that can be seen when held up to light.
- Security thread: A thin strip that glows pink when held under ultraviolet light.
The new notes will be gradually introduced into circulation over the next few years, with the £20 note being the first to be released in 2021. The existing paper notes will remain in circulation until they are gradually withdrawn.
It's worth noting that the UK is also exploring the possibility of introducing a new digital currency, known as the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), in the future. However, this is still in the early stages of development and no official timeline has been announced.
