New seven wonders of the world

In 2007, a new list of the Seven Wonders of the World was compiled through a worldwide poll. Here are the New Seven Wonders of the World:

  1. The Great Wall of China: A series of fortifications built across the northern borders of China to protect the country from invasions.
  2. The Taj Mahal: A white marble mausoleum in Agra, India, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife.
  3. Machu Picchu: An Inca citadel in the Cusco Region of Peru, built in the 15th century and abandoned before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors.
  4. Chichén Itzá: A pre-Columbian Mayan city on the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, built by the Mayans in the 6th century.
  5. The Roman Colosseum: An amphitheater in the center of Rome, Italy, built in the 1st century AD and one of the greatest architectural and engineering achievements of the ancient world.
  6. The Christ the Redeemer statue: A massive Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, designed by Paul Landowski and built by Heitor da Silva Costa.
  7. The Pyramids of Giza: The oldest and only remaining ancient wonder, the Pyramids of Giza are located on the outskirts of modern-day Cairo, Egypt, and were built as tombs for the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt.

These seven wonders were chosen from a list of 21 finalists, which were selected from over 100 million nominations. The New Seven Wonders of the World were announced on July 7, 2007, in Lisbon, Portugal.

It's worth noting that there is no single, universally accepted list of the Seven Wonders of the World. The original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, which were compiled by ancient Greek historians and philosophers, are:

  1. The Great Pyramid of Giza
  2. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
  3. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia
  4. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
  5. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
  6. The Colossus of Rhodes
  7. The Lighthouse of Alexandria

The New Seven Wonders of the World list is a more recent compilation, and it's not universally accepted as the definitive list. However, it's widely recognized and has been widely publicized.
