New rules for change of date of birth in passport
The rules for changing the date of birth in a passport have been updated by the Indian government. Here are the new rules:
Who can apply:
- Indian citizens who want to change their date of birth in their passport.
- The applicant must be a citizen of India.
Eligibility criteria:
- The applicant must be a citizen of India.
- The applicant must have a valid passport.
- The applicant must have a valid reason for changing their date of birth (e.g. correction of error, change of name, etc.).
Documents required:
- Original passport.
- Proof of date of birth (e.g. birth certificate, school leaving certificate, etc.).
- Proof of identity (e.g. Aadhaar card, voter ID card, etc.).
- Proof of address (e.g. utility bill, bank statement, etc.).
- Affidavit (in the prescribed format) explaining the reason for changing the date of birth.
Procedure:
- Fill out the application form (Form No. 2) and attach the required documents.
- Submit the application form and documents to the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in person.
- Pay the application fee (currently Rs. 1,500 for normal service and Rs. 3,000 for tatkaal service).
- The application will be processed and the passport will be issued with the changed date of birth.
Important notes:
- The changed date of birth will be reflected in the new passport.
- The old passport will be cancelled and returned to the applicant.
- The applicant must surrender their old passport to the authorities.
- The changed date of birth will not be reflected in any other government records or documents.
