New nigerian plate number
As of 2021, the new Nigerian plate number format is as follows:
New Format:
- The first letter represents the state of issuance (e.g. "AB" for Abia State, "AK" for Akwa Ibom State, etc.)
- The next three letters represent the registration year (e.g. "AAA" for 2021, "AAB" for 2022, etc.)
- The last three letters are a unique identifier assigned to the vehicle
Example:
- ABAAA123 (issued in Abia State in 2021)
- AKAAAB456 (issued in Akwa Ibom State in 2022)
Note:
- The new format is mandatory for all new vehicle registrations in Nigeria, starting from 2021.
- Existing vehicle owners are not required to change their plate numbers, but they may choose to do so if they wish.
- The new format is designed to make it easier to identify the state of issuance and the registration year of a vehicle.
