New nigerian passport requirements
As of 2022, the new Nigerian passport requirements are as follows:
Application Form:
- The application form is available on the website of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) or can be obtained from the passport office.
- The form must be completed in capital letters and signed by the applicant.
Required Documents:
- A valid means of identification (e.g. national ID card, driver's license, or international passport)
- Birth certificate or sworn affidavit of birth
- Proof of Nigerian citizenship (e.g. certificate of citizenship, naturalization certificate, or certificate of registration)
- Proof of name change (if applicable)
- Two recent passport-sized photographs with a white background
- Payment for the application fee (currently N25,000 for a 32-page passport and N35,000 for a 64-page passport)
Additional Requirements for Minors:
- For minors (below 18 years), a consent letter from both parents or guardians is required.
- A copy of the minor's birth certificate or sworn affidavit of birth is also required.
Additional Requirements for Renewal:
- For renewal, the old passport must be submitted.
- The applicant must provide a valid means of identification and proof of Nigerian citizenship.
Additional Requirements for Lost or Damaged Passports:
- For lost or damaged passports, a police report or a letter from the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) is required.
- The applicant must also provide a valid means of identification and proof of Nigerian citizenship.
Payment Methods:
- The application fee can be paid online using a debit/credit card or at the passport office using cash or a debit/credit card.
- The payment receipt must be attached to the application form.
Processing Time:
- The processing time for a new passport is typically 6-8 weeks, while renewal applications are processed within 4-6 weeks.
- Expedited services are available for an additional fee, which can reduce the processing time to 2-3 weeks.
Passport Types:
- The Nigerian passport comes in two types: 32-page and 64-page.
- The 32-page passport is valid for 5 years, while the 64-page passport is valid for 10 years.
Passport Requirements for International Travel:
- A valid Nigerian passport is required for international travel.
- The passport must have at least 6 months' validity from the date of travel.
- The passport must also have at least two blank pages for visa stamps.
