New naira notes 2023 design

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has unveiled the new naira notes design for 2023. Here are the details:

New Naira Notes Design:

  1. N200 Note:
    • Obverse (front): The portrait of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, a Nigerian statesman and philosopher, is featured on the obverse side.
    • Reverse (back): The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian cultural heritage, including traditional clothing, music, and art.
  2. N500 Note:
    • Obverse (front): The portrait of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a Nigerian statesman and politician, is featured on the obverse side.
    • Reverse (back): The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian economic and industrial development, including agriculture, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
  3. N1000 Note:
    • Obverse (front): The portrait of Dr. Muhammadu Buhari, the current President of Nigeria, is featured on the obverse side.
    • Reverse (back): The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian natural resources, including oil, gas, and agriculture.
  4. N5000 Note:
    • Obverse (front): The portrait of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, a former President of Nigeria, is featured on the obverse side.
    • Reverse (back): The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian cultural and historical landmarks, including the National Monument, the National Assembly, and the Presidential Villa.

Security Features:

The new naira notes will feature advanced security features to prevent counterfeiting, including:

  1. Watermark: A transparent image of the portrait of the featured personality will be visible when held against light.
  2. Security Thread: A thin strip of material embedded in the paper will glow when held under UV light.
  3. Raised Printing: Raised printing will be used to create tactile features on the notes.
  4. Micro-Printing: Tiny text and images will be printed on the notes to prevent counterfeiting.
  5. Color-Shifting Ink: The notes will feature color-shifting ink that changes color when viewed from different angles.

Other Features:

  1. The new naira notes will be printed on polymer substrate, which is more durable and resistant to wear and tear than traditional paper notes.
  2. The notes will feature a unique serial number and a signature of the CBN Governor.
  3. The notes will be available in denominations of N200, N500, N1000, and N5000.

The new naira notes are expected to be introduced into circulation in 2023, although an exact date has not been announced.
