New naira design

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced a new design for the Nigerian naira currency. Here are some key features of the new design:

New Naira Notes:

  1. N200: The new N200 note features a portrait of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, a Nigerian statesman and philosopher, on the obverse (front) side. The reverse (back) side features a collage of Nigerian cultural heritage, including traditional clothing, music, and art.
  2. N500: The new N500 note features a portrait of Dr. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a Nigerian nationalist and leader of the Biafran secessionist movement, on the obverse side. The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian agricultural and industrial development.
  3. N1000: The new N1000 note features a portrait of Dr. Muhammadu Buhari, the current President of Nigeria, on the obverse side. The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian natural resources, including oil, gas, and agriculture.
  4. N5000: The new N5000 note features a portrait of Dr. Olufunmilayo Ransome-Kuti, a Nigerian educationist and women's rights activist, on the obverse side. The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian education and healthcare systems.

New Naira Coins:

  1. 50 Kobo: The new 50 Kobo coin features a portrait of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe on the obverse side and a collage of Nigerian cultural heritage on the reverse side.
  2. 1 Naira: The new 1 Naira coin features a portrait of Dr. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu on the obverse side and a collage of Nigerian agricultural and industrial development on the reverse side.
  3. 2 Naira: The new 2 Naira coin features a portrait of Dr. Muhammadu Buhari on the obverse side and a collage of Nigerian natural resources on the reverse side.

Security Features:

The new naira notes and coins feature advanced security features to prevent counterfeiting, including:

  1. Watermark: A transparent image of the portrait of the featured personality is embedded in the paper.
  2. Security Thread: A thin strip of paper with a unique pattern is embedded in the note.
  3. Color-Shifting Ink: The ink used to print the notes changes color when viewed from different angles.
  4. Micro-Printing: Tiny text and images are printed on the notes using advanced printing techniques.
  5. Raised Printing: Raised printing is used to create a tactile effect on the notes.

The new naira design is expected to improve the security and durability of the currency, as well as promote Nigerian culture and heritage.
