The European Union (EU) has a total of 27 member states, which are:

In recent years, the EU has expanded to include several new member states. Here are some of the most recent additions:
- Croatia: joined the EU on July 1, 2013
- Bulgaria and Romania: joined the EU on January 1, 2007
- Slovenia: joined the EU on May 1, 2004
- Cyprus and Malta: joined the EU on May 1, 2004
- Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Slovakia: joined the EU on May 1, 2004
- Austria, Finland, and Sweden: joined the EU on January 1, 1995
It's worth noting that the EU has also undergone several enlargements in the past, with the most significant being the accession of 12 new member states in 2004 and the accession of Bulgaria and Romania in 2007.
