New element discovered 2018
You're referring to the new elements discovered in 2018!
In 2018, four new elements were officially recognized and added to the periodic table by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). These elements are:
- Nihonium (Nh): Element 113 Nihonium is a synthetic element with an atomic number of 113. It was first synthesized in 2003 by a team of scientists at the RIKEN research institute in Japan.
- Moscovium (Mc): Element 115 Moscovium is a synthetic element with an atomic number of 115. It was first synthesized in 2003 by a team of scientists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Russia.
- Tennessine (Ts): Element 117 Tennessine is a synthetic element with an atomic number of 117. It was first synthesized in 2010 by a team of scientists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Russia and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the United States.
- Oganesson (Og): Element 118 Oganesson is a synthetic element with an atomic number of 118. It was first synthesized in 2002 by a team of scientists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Russia and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the United States.
These elements are all synthetic, meaning they are not found naturally on Earth and can only be produced in a laboratory. They are also highly unstable and have very short half-lives, which means they quickly decay into other elements.
The discovery of these new elements was announced on November 30, 2016, and was officially recognized by IUPAC on November 30, 2018.
