New 7 wonders of the world
The New 7 Wonders of the World is a list of the seven most remarkable man-made structures in the world, as chosen by a poll of over 100 million people. The list was compiled in 2007 by the New7Wonders Foundation, a Swiss-based organization. Here are the New 7 Wonders of the World:
- The Great Wall of China: A series of fortifications built across the northern borders of China to protect the country from invasions. It stretches over 4,000 miles (6,400 km) and is one of the longest structures ever built.
- The Taj Mahal: A white marble mausoleum in Agra, India, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is considered one of the most beautiful examples of Mughal architecture.
- Machu Picchu: An Inca citadel in Peru, built in the 15th century and abandoned before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors. It is situated on a mountain ridge over 7,000 feet (2,100 meters) above sea level.
- Chichén Itzá: A pre-Columbian Mayan city in Mexico, built by the Mayans in the 6th century. It is known for its pyramids, temples, and ball courts.
- The Roman Colosseum: An amphitheater in the center of Rome, Italy, built in the 1st century AD. It is one of the greatest architectural and engineering achievements of the ancient world.
- The Christ the Redeemer statue: A massive Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, designed by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa.
- The Pyramids of Giza: The oldest and only remaining ancient wonder, the Pyramids of Giza are located on the outskirts of modern-day Cairo, Egypt. The largest pyramid, the Great Pyramid of Giza, is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids.
These seven wonders were chosen from a list of 21 finalists, which included other famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Acropolis, and the Great Pyramid of Cholula.
