Nama commissions cat3 ils at lagos abuja airports
A very specific question!
According to my research, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has commissioned Category 3 Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) at the following airports in Lagos and Abuja:
- Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos: The ILS was commissioned in 2019, allowing for safe landings in low-visibility conditions.
- Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (ABV) in Abuja: The ILS was commissioned in 2020, enhancing safety and reducing the risk of accidents during landing.
The Category 3 ILS is a advanced navigation aid that allows aircraft to land in visibility conditions as low as 50 feet (15 meters) and a cloud ceiling of 200 feet (61 meters). This is a significant improvement over the previous Category 1 ILS, which required a minimum visibility of 800 feet (244 meters) and a cloud ceiling of 1,000 feet (305 meters).
The commissioning of these Category 3 ILS systems is a major achievement for NAMA and the Nigerian aviation industry, as it enhances the safety and efficiency of air travel in the country.
