NAFDAC to Clamp Down on Erring Restaurants in Kaduna
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has vowed to clamp down on restaurants and eateries in Kaduna State that fail to adhere to food safety standards.
The agency's Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, made this known during a meeting with stakeholders in Kaduna, where she emphasized the need for food vendors to ensure that their products are safe for consumption.
According to her, NAFDAC has received several complaints about the poor state of food handling and storage practices in some restaurants and eateries in the state, which poses a significant risk to public health.
"We will not hesitate to shut down any restaurant or eatery that fails to meet our standards," Prof. Adeyeye warned. "We will also prosecute any food vendor who is found to be operating illegally or selling substandard products."
The NAFDAC boss also called on the public to report any food vendor that is found to be operating illegally or selling substandard products to the agency.
In addition, she urged food vendors to ensure that they obtain the necessary permits and licenses from the agency before operating in the state.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Kaduna State Government, the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders in the food industry.
It is worth noting that NAFDAC has been working to improve food safety in Nigeria, and has implemented several initiatives to ensure that food products are safe for consumption.
