My word will not return void new testament
A powerful verse!
"My word will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." - Isaiah 55:11 (NIV)
This verse is often quoted in the New Testament as well, as it is a prophecy that is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Here are a few examples:
- In John 12:24, Jesus quotes this verse, saying, "Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single grain; but if it dies, it produces a large crop." Jesus is saying that His death and resurrection will bring about a great harvest of salvation for many people.
- In Romans 4:21, Paul writes, "He will not treat us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For his mercy toward me was great, just as the heights of the heavens are higher than the earth, so are his mercy and his truth greater than all the evil that men can do to him." Paul is saying that God's mercy and truth will ultimately prevail, just as Isaiah 55:11 says that God's word will not return empty.
- In 1 Corinthians 15:55-57, Paul writes, "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." Paul is saying that Jesus has defeated death and sin, and that His word has accomplished what God desired.
In each of these examples, the verse from Isaiah 55:11 is being applied to Jesus Christ and His work of salvation. It is a powerful reminder that God's word is not empty or ineffective, but is powerful and accomplishing His purposes in the world.
