Move google authenticator to new iphone
A common conundrum!
Moving Google Authenticator to a new iPhone is a bit of a process, but don't worry, I'll guide you through it. Here's a step-by-step tutorial:
Before you start:
- Make sure you have the Google Authenticator app installed on both your old and new iPhones.
- Take note of the 2-Step Verification (2SV) codes for each account you want to transfer. You can find these codes in the Google Authenticator app on your old iPhone.
Step 1: Export your accounts from the old iPhone
- Open the Google Authenticator app on your old iPhone.
- Tap the three horizontal lines (menu) in the top left corner.
- Tap "Settings" (gear icon).
- Tap "Export accounts".
- Choose "Export accounts" again to confirm.
- You'll see a QR code and a secret key for each account. Take a photo of each QR code or write down the secret key for each account.
Step 2: Import accounts to the new iPhone
- Open the Google Authenticator app on your new iPhone.
- Tap the "+" icon in the top right corner to add a new account.
- Tap "Scan a QR code" or "Enter a secret key".
- For each account, scan the QR code you took a photo of or enter the secret key you wrote down.
- Follow the prompts to set up each account on your new iPhone.
Step 3: Verify your accounts on the new iPhone
- Open the Google Authenticator app on your new iPhone.
- Tap the three horizontal lines (menu) in the top left corner.
- Tap "Settings" (gear icon).
- Tap "Verify accounts".
- For each account, enter the 2SV code you noted earlier to verify the account on your new iPhone.
That's it!
You should now have all your Google Authenticator accounts transferred to your new iPhone. Make sure to update the accounts on your new iPhone to ensure you receive the latest 2SV codes.
Remember to delete the Google Authenticator app from your old iPhone to prevent any potential security issues.
