Malaysia says will issue arrest warrant for north korean diplomat in kim jong nam murder
According to recent reports, Malaysia has announced that it will issue an arrest warrant for a North Korean diplomat in connection with the murder of Kim Jong Nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Kim Jong Nam was assassinated at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in February 2017, with two women allegedly using a deadly nerve agent to kill him. The murder was widely condemned and sparked a diplomatic crisis between Malaysia and North Korea.
Malaysia's attorney general, Tommy Thomas, said on Tuesday that the country's police had completed their investigation and would issue an arrest warrant for Ri Jong Hyok, a North Korean diplomat who was allegedly involved in the murder.
Ri was one of four North Korean suspects who fled Malaysia after the murder, and Malaysia has been seeking his extradition. The other three suspects, who were also North Korean nationals, were arrested and charged with murder.
The Malaysian government has accused North Korea of being behind the murder, and has demanded that Pyongyang cooperate with the investigation. However, North Korea has denied any involvement in the murder and has refused to cooperate with the investigation.
The issuance of an arrest warrant for Ri is seen as a significant development in the case, and could potentially lead to further diplomatic tensions between Malaysia and North Korea.
