Lagosians Raise Alarm Over Robbery Attacks on Highways at Dawn

Residents of Lagos State have expressed concern over the increasing number of robbery attacks on highways in the state, particularly during dawn hours. The attacks, which have been reported on several major highways, have left many commuters and motorists feeling vulnerable and anxious.

According to eyewitnesses, the robbers, often armed with guns and machetes, target vehicles at dawn, when the roads are less crowded and the visibility is poor. The attacks have been reported on highways such as the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Benin-Ore Road, and the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

One resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, said: "I was driving to work on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway last week when I was stopped by a group of robbers. They demanded that I hand over my valuables, including my phone and wallet. I was lucky to escape with my life, but many others have not been so fortunate."

Another resident, who was attacked on the Benin-Ore Road, said: "I was driving to Lagos when I was stopped by a group of robbers. They took my phone, wallet, and even my car keys. I was left stranded on the road, with no way to get help."

The Lagos State Police Command has promised to increase patrols on the highways and to work with other security agencies to prevent the attacks. However, many residents are calling for more to be done to address the issue.

"We need more police presence on the highways, especially during dawn hours when the attacks are most common," said a resident. "We also need better lighting and surveillance cameras to help prevent these attacks."

The Lagos State Government has also promised to work with the police to address the issue. "We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and commuters in Lagos State," said a government spokesperson. "We will work with the police to increase patrols and to prevent these attacks."

In the meantime, residents are advised to be vigilant and to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property.
