Lagos State Announces Alternative Routes as Eko Bridge is Closed for Repair Works
The Lagos State Government has announced alternative routes for motorists as the Eko Bridge, a major transportation artery in the state, is closed for repair works.
The bridge, which connects the mainland to the island, was closed on Monday, March 27, 2023, to enable the state government to carry out necessary repairs and maintenance works.
According to a statement issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the closure is part of efforts to ensure the safety and durability of the bridge, which has been in use for over 40 years.
To alleviate the impact of the closure on commuters, the state government has announced alternative routes as follows:
- Apapa-Oshodi Expressway: Motorists can use the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway to access the island from the mainland.
- Third Mainland Bridge: The Third Mainland Bridge can be used as an alternative route to access the island from the mainland.
- Ikorodu Road: Motorists can use the Ikorodu Road to access the island from the mainland.
- Agege Motor Road: The Agege Motor Road can be used as an alternative route to access the island from the mainland.
The state government has also deployed traffic management officials to ensure a smooth flow of traffic along the alternative routes and to provide assistance to motorists.
The repair works on the Eko Bridge are expected to last for several weeks, and the state government has appealed to motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with the traffic management officials to ensure a safe and successful completion of the project.
In the meantime, the state government has assured that it will continue to monitor the traffic situation and provide updates to the public on the progress of the repair works.
