Lagos assembly replaces sacked principal officers
The Lagos State House of Assembly has replaced the sacked principal officers of the state legislature.
According to reports, the Assembly on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, elected new principal officers to replace the ones who were sacked by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, earlier in the day.
The new principal officers elected include:
- Hon. Sanai Agunbiade as the new Deputy Speaker
- Hon. Tunde Braimoh as the new Majority Leader
- Hon. Olumuyiwa Jimoh as the new Deputy Majority Leader
- Hon. Akeem Bello as the new Chief Whip
- Hon. Rotimi Abiru as the new Deputy Chief Whip
The development comes after the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, had earlier in the day, sacked the former principal officers, citing alleged misconduct and disobedience to the Assembly's rules.
The sacked principal officers included the former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, and the former Majority Leader, Hon. Ebtesam Oyedele.
The Assembly's decision to replace the sacked principal officers was taken after a meeting of the lawmakers, where they deliberated on the matter and decided to elect new leaders to replace the sacked ones.
The new principal officers are expected to work with the Speaker to ensure the smooth running of the Assembly and the implementation of its legislative agenda.
