Kwara tertiary institutions begin indefinite strike
According to reports, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Senior Staff Association of Universities (SSANU) in Kwara State have embarked on an indefinite strike.
The strike was called due to the failure of the Kwara State Government to meet the demands of the unions, including the payment of outstanding salaries and allowances, as well as the non-implementation of the 2019 agreement reached between the government and the unions.
The unions have been protesting the government's failure to fulfill its obligations, including the payment of salaries and allowances, which has led to financial hardship for many staff members.
The strike has affected all tertiary institutions in Kwara State, including the University of Ilorin, Kwara State University, and the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, among others.
The unions have called on the government to take immediate action to address their demands and resolve the crisis, which has caused significant disruption to academic activities in the state.
It is hoped that the government and the unions will be able to reach a resolution soon to end the strike and allow students to return to their studies.
