Kogi police fires 3 officers drug trafficking

According to reports, the Kogi State Police Command has dismissed three of its officers for alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

The officers, who were identified as Inspector Aliyu Abubakar, Sergeant Suleiman Abubakar, and Corporal Suleiman Abubakar, were arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Lokoja, the state capital, on February 22, 2023.

The officers were allegedly found in possession of 1.2 kilograms of cocaine and 1.5 kilograms of heroin, with a street value of over N100 million.

The Kogi State Police Command, in a statement, said that the officers were dismissed from the force following an investigation into the matter.

The statement read: "The Kogi State Police Command has dismissed three of its officers, Inspector Aliyu Abubakar, Sergeant Suleiman Abubakar, and Corporal Suleiman Abubakar, for their involvement in drug trafficking.

"The officers were arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Lokoja on February 22, 2023, and found in possession of 1.2 kilograms of cocaine and 1.5 kilograms of heroin, with a street value of over N100 million.

"The Command has zero tolerance for any form of corruption and drug trafficking, and the officers' dismissal is a clear demonstration of the Command's commitment to upholding the law and maintaining public trust.

"The Command will continue to work with other security agencies to ensure that those involved in drug trafficking are brought to justice and that the state remains a safe and secure place for all citizens."

This development is a significant step in the fight against drug trafficking in Kogi State and serves as a warning to other officers who may be involved in similar activities.
