Kobe Bryant Day: Los Angeles Mayor Honors NBA Legend

On August 24, 2020, the City of Los Angeles officially declared August 24th as Kobe Bryant Day in honor of the late NBA legend. The declaration was made by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who presented a proclamation to the Bryant family at a ceremony at the Staples Center.

Kobe Bryant, who passed away in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, was a five-time NBA champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP, and 18-time All-Star during his 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

The proclamation was presented to Kobe's widow, Vanessa Bryant, and their daughters, Natalia, Gianna, and Bianka, at a ceremony that included a video tribute to Kobe's career and a moment of silence.

"Kobe Bryant was a true Los Angeles legend, and his legacy continues to inspire and motivate us all," said Mayor Garcetti. "Today, we honor his memory and celebrate his incredible achievements on and off the court."

The ceremony also included a photo opportunity with the Bryant family and the Los Angeles Lakers organization, which was shared on social media using the hashtag #KobeBryantDay.
