A lecturer at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Anambra State, identified as Mrs Okwuchi kidnapped by unknown gunmen has regained her freedom.
The victim, lecturing at the Agricultural Department of the institution was reportedly kidnapped on Saturday at the market square where she came to make some purchases.
According to reports, the gunmen accosted her and shot in the air, causing traders in the market to scamper for safety while she was taken away.
Confirming the news, the Police Public Relation Officer of the state, SP Haruna Mohammed said the victim was released in good condition adding the command is working to unravel those behind the act and bring them to justice.
However, a source in Umunze said Mrs Okwuchi was freed after she coughed out an undisclosed sum as ransom.
“Yes, she has been released. As at yesterday evening, she was still calling her friends to raise money for her release,” the source said.
